James Christensen's "Lawrence Pretended" is a well-loved image that has been made into a print, canvas and a porcelain. Back before this lovable character was Lawrence, his original name was Wilbur! This beautiful original watercolor entitled "Wilbur chose to ignore the bear that had attached itself to the hem of his jacket" pre-dates the Lawrence that we've grown to love.
What is particularly striking about this watercolor is its depth. It has a true three-dimensional feel, much more so than other watercolors we've seen. It is signed and dated (1989) by the artist and framed with conservation materials.
Note: The brown spots/tinting is brown watercolor that was applied on purpose and used to frame the character. This has been verified by the artist himself. Contact us for larger images of this exceptional piece.
